Comments Dear City Council,
As we approach the year anniversary of the Glasshouse ICE Raids, I encourage you all to pause for a moment to reflect on what you, as a governing body, as well as you -as individuals, have done to prevent the continuing degradation of civil rights in this community.
For too long, local leaders have chosen to remain silent about the ongoing atrocities perpetrated against our immigrant friends, neighbors and loved ones.
I ask you to do more, to stand up, to raise your voice, to condemn the dehumanization of others. This isn’t something you can explain away by stating the problem stems from policy at a higher level. YOU can issue a decree of what this city stands for and what this city finds unacceptable. Your
1 community is losing faith in you.
Acknowledge the problem – its hasn’t disappeared – hatred and bigotry are alive and well. Speak out.
Silence is complicity.
Be brave.
