As a resident of 3 plus years, I am bothered that one of the smaller cities in Camarillo is even thinking about giving a raise to the City manager being one, if not, highest paid city managers in the county. Public service is an honor and about serving the public, not about exploiting public funds for management. While I respect city manager duties, he has not done much since his arrival to merit such high wage. If he is to be the highest paid city manager, then he must be the highest working city manager in area. Camarillo city manager could not be such, as its services pale in comparison to cities with higher populations, simply based on lower needs due to population size. There are huge needs in the City, which have not changed since his arrival.
He should earn his raise based on accomplishments, not on resident tax base. The Board should focus on diverting monies to needed street lighting in areas such as the Heights, sidewalks so children can safely walk to school, have a greater police presence, more public areas and services around different parts of the city, bring in night markets, more safe family evening activities, and a diversified industry.
If current city manager feels he is underpaid, then he should leave and the opportunity be given to someone who will value working for Camarillo at the current large wage Ruben Ruiz
