Position Oppose
Comments Mayor Tennessen, Vice Mayor Martinez-Bravo, Councilmember Santangelo, Councilmember Trembley, Councilmember Kildee, I've noticed that this meeting you (the Camarillo City Council) are to discuss a Sixth Amendment to City/District Manager Greg Ramirez's employment contract, which will almost
certainly involve giving him a raise.
l've also noticed that this meeting you (the Camarillo City Council) are to discuss both amending the Fiscal Year
2025/2026 city budget and the Fiscal Year 2026/2027 city budget to give yourselves a raise.
Setting aside for a moment that Ramirez is already by far the highest-compensated city manager in Ventura County despite there being 4 cities (Ventura, Oxnard, Thousand Oaks, and Simi Valley) in the county who are all substantially larger than Camarillo is, I've heard horrible things about how Ramirez has been running his department and, of course, there have been multiple exxpensive lawsuits filed against the City of Camarillo from current and former City employees concerning ill
treatment at the hands of the City under Ramirez.
Also, there is of course the continuing dumping of our taxpayer funds into those whopping 25 Flock ALPR cameras (again, for context, Oxnard, who is multiple times our size, has only 19 of those) that we know are directly helping ICE Target people in our city, who in addition to being our neighbors and loved ones are also local taxpayers who play a huge part in powering the city's economic engine, off which the City also makes sales taxes and development taxes, via sending data they collect here in Camarillo to be seen by ICE and law enforcement agencies outside of California.
Between lawsuits and helping ICE, I really don't think the City of Camarillo currently has the budaet to either raise Ramirez's compensation or raise the City Council's compensation, not if the City is to stick to its founding goal of fiscal responsibility and keeping its burden on local taxpayers as low as possible.
Sincerely,
Spencer Richey
Taxpaying Lifelong Camarillan
