AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CAMARILLO AMENDING SECTION 2.08.040 OF THE CAMARILLO
MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO THE SALARIES OF CITY
COUNCILMEMBERS PURSUANT TO GOVERNMENT CODE
SECTION 36516
SECTION 1:The City Council of the City of Camarillo finds as follows:
A. Government Code section 36516 authorizes the City Council to adopt an ordinance providing for City Council salaries and the manner in which that salary may be increased.
B. An increase in City Council compensation is necessary to align with rising living costs and the increasing demands of public service. This adjustment helps to ensure that qualified individuals are attracted to and remain in elected positions, supporting effective governance.
C. At the City Council meeting of June 24, 2026, the City Council reviewed and determined the appropriate compensation increases.
D. The City Council now desires to adopt an ordinance implementing the approved compensation increases.
E. As provided in City Policy, any Councilmember may, at their sole discretion, decline to receive all or any portion of the salary or salary increase authorized by this Ordinance by submitting a waiver to the Human Resources Director.
SECTION 2: Section 2.08.040 of the Camarillo Municipal Code is amended to read as follows:
“2.08.040. Salaries.
Effective January 1, 2027, the salary for each member of the City Council shall be increased by 3%, resulting in a monthly salary of $1669.18.
SECTION 3:Ordinance No. 2021 is repealed effective January 1, 2027.
SECTION 4.The City Clerk must certify the adoption of this ordinance and cause the same to be published in the manner prescribed by law.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED July 8, 2026.
