Recommended Action
Adopt a resolution accepting a donation of $100,000 from the Friends of the Carlsbad Library to the City of Carlsbad Library & Cultural Arts Department.

Executive Summary
The Friends of the Carlsbad Library are donating $100,000 in direct support of library programs for fiscal year 2024-25.

Carlsbad Municipal Code Section 2.08.100 requires the City Council’s approval for the city to accept donations worth more than $5,000.

Explanation & Analysis
The Friends of the Carlsbad Library is a non-profit, community-based organization, founded in 1957 with the mission to support Carlsbad City Library programs and activities. The Friends raise funds through the sale of books at Friends bookstores in both the Dove and Cole Libraries.

This donation will provide supplies for children, teens and technology programming, reimbursement for performers, materials for the ongoing mindfulness series and support of the Carlsbad Reads Together author talk.

Fiscal Analysis
This $100,000 donation from the Friends of the Carlsbad Library will augment the FY 2024-25 operating budget for the Library & Cultural Arts Department allowing the purchase of library materials and the continuation of library programs for the community that otherwise might not be possible.

Next Steps
The donation from the Friends of the Carlsbad Library will be appropriated to the Library & Cultural Arts Department FY 2024-25 operating budget.
