From: John Muhr, Fire Chief
Title: Purchase of 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe LT Staff Vehicle City Council
RECOMMENDATION:

Authorize the Fire Department to purchase one 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 4WD with associated emergency lighting and radio installation.

BACKGROUND:

The Fire Department operates the fleet of staff vehicles listed below. The 2020 F250 is routinely utilized by the fire inspector, and occasionally by a Battalion Chief. The Fire Chief drives the 2014 Ford Taurus. The remaining two pickups are used as reserve response units.
2014 Ford Taurus (staff Vehicle)
2020 Ford F250 (Fire Prevention)
2009 Ford F250 Pickup (reserve BC vehicle)
2009 Ford F250 Pickup (utility pickup)
DISCUSSION:

In 2021, the Fire Department budgeted to replace one of the two 2009 F250 pickups. Both were purchased in November of 2008 and have seen 13 years of service. Both are approaching the end of their effective service life for emergency response units and are due for replacement.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The purchase price of the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe will be $60,296.38 (including estimated sales tax). Bids were solicited from five local dealerships and two responses were received. The local GM dealer (Jessup) provided the attached bid which includes a governmental rebate of $6,400. The other response received was from Paradise Chevrolet in Banning. They offered a similar SUV for a price of $82,184.

An additional $5,689.43 is requested to install the necessary emergency lighting and radio package, for a grand total of $65,985.81:
