BACKGROUND:

Since 2015, the City Council has approved a contract for services with Samuel Eric Davis to research, contact, and foster sponsorship revenue and in-kind revenue for Special Events coordinated, designed, and/or produced by the City of Cathedral City.

Mr. Davis has done a fantastic job securing tens of thousands of dollars in sponsorship revenue for the City's signature events (Cathedral City Hot Air Balloon Festival, Snow Fest, Taste of Jalisco, and Cathedral City LGBT Days) as well as some of the smaller events like Halloween Spooktacular, East Palm Canyon Banner Program, and Tejano Music Fest.

DISCUSSION:

Over the past two years, Mr. Davis’ contract has been a $0 per month stipend with a 30% commission raised. This two-year contract extension would maintain Mr. Davis’ contract to $0 per month stipend with a 30% commission of all funds raised. The commission would only be paid for events produced by the City of Cathedral and not events contracted out to third party directors in which he contracts directly with them for sponsorships.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There will be no fiscal impact on the City as only when Mr. Davis raises funds for City produced special events will the City incur a 30% fee in association with the monies raised.
