Title: Donation of a 2003 Wells cargo Trailer to CCHS Marching Band
City Council
RECOMMENDATION:
To authorize the Police Department to donate a 2003 Wells Cargo enclosed trailer to the Cathedral City High School Marching Band Boosters, Inc.
BACKGROUND:
The 2003 Wells Cargo enclosed trailer was obtained by the Cathedral City Police Department in approximately 2003 to be used for the (OHV) Off -Highway Vehicle Enforcement Program. The OHV Enforcement Program has not been in place for over a decade and the off -highway vehicle quads used in the program were sold at auction in approximately 2015. The enclosed trailer was used to transport our off-highway vehicles in the mid 2000’s and over the past several years has been sitting in our parking lot not being used. Due to its lack of use, the trailer was scheduled to be sent to auction.
DISCUSSION:
The Police Department was informed by our Fleet Coo rdinator the Cathedral City High School Marching Band had an immediate need for an enclosed trailer to transport marching band instruments and equipment to compete in competitions throughout Southern California. Currently, the CCHS Marching Band owns a sma ll trailer that does not fit all their equipment and instruments. As a result, the Marching Band Boosters must rent a U -Haul trailer each time they compete, which places a financial burden on the Ban d Booster organization. Due to this need by the High Scho ol, the Police Department has an opportunity to donate to our local CCHS Marching Band Boosters and help improve the logistical issues they face with transportation of their equipment and instruments for our local youth.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Cathedral Cit y High School would take licensing ownership and service responsibility, along with accepting any future liability, for the 2003 Wells Cargo

enclosed trailer. Therefore, the expense to the city would be approximately $2000.00 in lost revenue from the sale at auction of the enclosed trailer. The CCHS band Boosters, Inc are a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation.
