Robert Rodriguez, Director of Planning and Building, provided an overview of the Downtown Design Guidelines, which were adopted in 2002. These guidelines were intended to guide public and private development in the Downtown area in a manner consistent with the goals and objectives of the established Guidelines.
Denise Cross expressed her concern with the washes in the City, which are private property, and feels they may affect nearby homes. She asked that the City keep an eye on these areas.
After discussion of the City Council, City Manager Charles McClendon stated that the Guidelines will need to be reviewed and updated as needed to ensure it continues to meet the needs of the Community. He also stated that as projects in the downtown area come before the Council for consideration the elements of the guideline will be reviewed where Council and the public will have the opportunity to provide suggestions and input.
He stated that staff will work on coordinating some version of a tour for Council to review other Downtown areas.
