Title: Lift to Rise: Stories from Home
City Council
RECOMMENDATION:
To approve Special Use Permit #22-001 to allow Lift to Rise to hold an educational mixer about housing policy and advocacy in the Coachella Valley.
BACKGROUND:
Lift to Rise’s mission is to address the underlying causes and consequences of poverty in the Coachella Valley by uplifting the region’s story, build ing local strength, and working to instigate change.
Through collaboration with community partners and extensive data analysis, Lift to Rise focuses on two areas: housing stability and economic opportunity. Its goals are ambitious as they want to reduce the number of rent burdened Coachella Valley households by 30% over the next ten years by increasing the supply of affordable housing, changing local policies, and increasing regional investment.
DISCUSSION:
Lift to Rise played an integral part during the COVID-19 pandemic helping families throughout Riverside County with rental assistance and rental housing stability. They are planning to hold an educational mixer , open to the public, in the Paseo and Civic Center Plaza on Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 12 :00 pm to 4:00 pm featuring a Jazz band, food and non -alcoholic drinks for about 50 -75 people. They plan to have photo displays of their work and the importance of their organization.
They would also like to use the Council Chambers to host a panel discussion along with a Q&A session about housing policy in the Coachella Valley using the dais, podium, computer and projectors.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Lift to Rise has paid the $510 Special Use Permit application fee. Besides the City’s Communications/Events Manager opening and closing City Hall, cost would be nominal to the City. They would provide insurance naming the City as an additional insured.
