BACKGROUND:
On June 22, 2022, the City Council accepted the resignation of Kevin Brandt from the Planning Commission and directed staff to accept applications to fill this seat and schedule interviews.
Pursuant to California Government Code Section 54974, a Notice of Unscheduled Vacancy on the Planning Commission was posted in the three designated posting locations, published in the Desert Sun and announced on the City’s Website and through Social Media.
The term on the Planning Commission shall be effective immediately and go through June 30, 2023.
DISCUSSION:
Staff has received applications from the following individuals:
Rich Malacoff
Christopher Mandarano
Danielle Mead
All of the applications are attached for your review. Mr. Mandarano interviewed in the June interview process; however, he was not appointed at that time. Mr. Mandarano has expressed interest in serving on the Planning Commission, however, he will be out of town on the date of the interviews but would still like to be considered.
Staff recommends that the following be the procedure for the interview process:
•Applicants will assemble in the Council Chambers between 3:00 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.
•A computerized random number draw will be conducted for the order of the interviews.
•The applicants that are not being interviewed first will be asked to wait outside the Chambers until it is their turn to interview so that no applicant has access to the interview questions prior to his/her interview.
•The interviews will be conducted in the Council Chambers in an open public meeting.
