BACKGROUND:

Over the last few months, staff has been researching and looking to purchase a new Ford Explorer PIU to replace an existing patrol unit. Due to manufacturer delays and limited inventory, staff could not procure an in-stock unit from different dealerships.

The department has maintained a close working relationship with Dana Safety Supply and contacted them to purchase a new patrol vehicle. Duval Ford is the parent company of Dana Safety Supply and indicated the ordering window for 2023 Ford Explorer PIU's was currently open. Staff secured a quote for purchasing the vehicle and the upfitting of emergency equipment.

DISCUSSION:

This vehicle will replace an existing 2014 Ford Explorer PIU that has reached the end of its use. This patrol unit will be equipped with all the necessary emergency equipment for patrol use.

The anticipated delivery of the vehicle is March 2023. The authorization to buy now would ensure the department secures a unit in the earliest time frame.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The cost of the Ford Explorer PIU from Duval Ford is $53,599.61, including CA sales tax. Emergency equipment upfitting costs $18,702.83, including CA sales tax from Dana Safety Supply. The total purchase price is $72,302.44.

The Equipment Replacement Fund (611) will be the source of funds to purchase this vehicle.
