BACKGROUND:
The Landau Boulevard/McCallum Way Intersection Improvements Project (Project) proposes to modify an existing two-way stop intersection into a complete signalized intersection and improve existing pavement conditions at the intersection of Landau Boulevard and McCallum Way (Project Location Map attached).
The scope of the Project consists of the removal and demolition of existing pavement and outdated curb ramps, construction of concrete approach lanes, installation of asphalt concrete pavement, construction of updated curb ramps, pavement striping and markings, traffic signage, and the installation of a new traffic signal.
On March 23, 2022, the City Council approved Senate Bill 1 (RMRA/SB-1) Resolution No. 2022-16 that included the Landau Boulevard/McCallum Way Intersection Improvements Project for the FY 2022/2023. On June 14, 2023, the City Council approved SB-1 Resolution No. 2023-19 that included the construction phase of Landau Boulevard/McCallum Way Intersection Improvements Project for the FY 2023/2024.

•Desert Sun – Published on May 10, 2023 and May 17, 2023 •PlanIt Print Works – From May 10, 2023, until June 1, 2023 •City’s Website – From May 10, 2023, until June 1, 2023 On June 1, 2023, the City received three (3) bid proposals for this Project. The following table lists each qualified bidder by total price:
RANK CONTRACTOR AMOUNT
1 DBX Inc. (Temecula, CA) $1,038,888.50
2 Universal Construction and Engineering (Palm Desert,
CA)
$1,068,372.85
3 Granite Construction Company (Indio, CA) $1,092,000.00 The Bid Tabulation prepared by the Engineering Division is attached to this report for reference.

An additive alternative bid was included as part of the bid documents for the adjustment of the Coachella Valley Water District’s (CVWD) utilities, typically reimbursed by CVWD to the City. For this Project CVWD Staff has recommended to reject the additive alternative and to perform the work with CVWD’s contractor. DBX will be responsible for coordinating this work with CVWD contractor.
The following table lists the bidders excluding the Additive Alternate Bid Schedule No.1:
RANK CONTRACTOR AMOUNT
1 DBX Inc. $1,021,888.50
2 Universal Construction and Engineering $1,026,622.85
3 Granite Construction Company $1,080,200.00
