BACKGROUND:
This proposed 2024 Run for Refugees 5K Run and Walk is being organized to raise money for the millions of refugees displaced in Ukraine. Northgate Community Church has a partnering arm helping those refugees and all money raised will go to them.
DISCUSSION:
Similar to the 2023 event, the 5K Run and Walk will set up at 5:00 a.m. on April 13, 2024, at Northgate Community Church 30010 Date Palm Drive, Cathedral City, CA 92234. The 5K run starts at 7:30 a.m. and will wrap up by 9:00 a.m., with 500 attendees projected for the event. They will have an ambulance on site in case of medical emergencies before, during or after the run.
Event organizers will also have trash and recycling bins on site for cleanup as well as 5- 6 portable toilets for attendees and volunteers. The event doesn’t need any road closures and will use the bike lane on 30th Avenue using cones. Northgate Community Church gets insurance through USATF and will have a liability policy naming Cathedral City.
FISCAL IMPACT:
In addition to actions recommended by the City Council on the Special Use Permit General City Limits application (fee of $300 for an event with 500 attendees or less), the applicant must submit payment to the City prior to the event and provide all necessary insurance documentation.
FIVE-YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN:
Action F-6: Promote additional community events and celebrations.
