RE: Planning Commission Vacancy
Dear Committee,
I’d like to be considered as a candidate for the vacant position on the Planning Commission. As a stakeholder and resident in the community, I am very interested in the development and planning of our beautiful city! Proper planning can help create a sense of space and pride within a community, neighborhood, and city. It can, if done well, influence the future in a positive way that supports its resident’s financial, emotional, and mental well-being.
As a therapist, I understand the importance of identity and belonging and how a healthy identity contributes to self-esteem and self-worth. A strong identity, supported by good urban planning and policy, can influence a community’s sense of happiness and success on both the individual (micro) and community (macro) levels.
As a stakeholder, business owner (member of the Greater Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce), and property owner in Cathedral City, I am deeply invested emotionally and financially in this amazing desert community. I am passionate about creating and supporting a positive and sustainable future for all Cathedral City residents.
In the past, when I lived in Los Angeles, I planted over 100 trees, commissioned 6 works of art that were included in the official city inventory of art, organized Neighborhood Watch groups, started a neighborhood garden on a problematic piece of blighted land, planted an “urban orchard” to beautify a neighborhood and provide food (citrus trees) for a community experiencing food insecurity, and organized many community clean-up days. I’m also a bit of an architecture geek, who’s super interested in green building, cutting-edge design, and sustainability and how these things can intersect to potentially work together and support a community physically, financially, emotionally, and spiritually.
Thank you for considering me to fill this vacant position! I look forward to connecting with you.
Most sincerely,
Peter Bedard, MA, C.Ht., RScP
