Planning Commission Membership Application
Honorable Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem, City Council Members

I would like to be considered for a second term on the Cathedral City Planning Commission.

Since moving to the city nine years ago, I have been active in various local organizations. I have previously served as a member of COPS, and the Parks and Community Events commission. I currently serve on the Planning Commission, the Cannabis Task Force, and the Finance Advisory Committee.

In terms of past experience of planning in the private sector, I was responsible for the design of a new education center in London, and the redesign/refurbishment of another in New York City. As a result, I had a reasonable understanding of planning documents including site and floor plans. Over the past three years, m y work on the planning commission has broadened and strengthened that experience.

I continue to be actively engaged in the work of the city council, having been a regular attendee at council meetings, study sessions, and the annual strategic planning sessions. Over the past three years, working as a planning commissioner, I have gain ed more insight into the planning process and workings of city departments. I am also now a member of the American Planning Association , which has provided a broader understanding of the challenges California cities face especially given the continuing major changes in state legislation related to planning, zoning, and housing. In the past year, I was a member of the team that recommended the selection of Mintier Harnish to conduct the Zoning Code update.

I believe my experience with planning and with other volunteer roles within the city provides a strong background for continuing my work on the commission, and especially in continuing to assist with the Zoning Code update.

Through my work championing Measure B, I developed a keen interest in how planning and zoning decisions are made, and the impact those decisions may have particularly on our residential neighborhoods. In terms of planning and zoning, I believe in an approach that balances family life, housing and economic development. The city has made tremendous strides in that respect in the past eight years, and I would like to help in continuing to move our city forward as a great place to both live and work, in line with the updated General Plan, and in accordance with adopted zoning and other ordinances, rules and regulations.

I am willing to attend any extracurricular meetings and training seminars appropriate to the position, and to work on any additional projects the city council requires.

I 'work well with others'. I communicate and interact well with team members and stake-holders at all levels.
