Firstly, I want to thank Nancy, Rita, and Mark for their support to the Historic Preservation Committee during the three years I've been on the committee. Secondly, I want to thank you for your faith in me. Unfortunately, I no longer feel my 30 plus years in Historic Preservation are of any use to the committee as it has changed drastically since Cynthia took the lead. While I appreciate what she is doing, it is not what I understood this committee's mission to be. My understanding was the Historic Preservation Committee as it was established by Ordinance on January 9, 2019 that we would review projects for compliance with applicable provisions of the code related to the preservation of historic resources and make recommendation to the City Council and Planning Commission, as appropriate, related to the approval of projects involving historic resources and the adoption of regulations aimed at preserving historic resources.
Cynthia's plan relegates "regulations aimed at preserving historic resources" to be the least important task of the Historic Preservation Committee. My experience is not needed to discuss and plan for walking tours, grants to the Historical Society, etc. In my opinion, those are History not Historic Preservation. So, it is with regret, I find I am no longer needed on this Committee. I resign.
Sincerely,
Charlotte Hunter-Copper, PhD
