Title: Review and Approve City Council Meeting Calendar for 2026 RECOMMENDATION:
To review and approve the proposed City Council Meeting Calendar for 2026.
BACKGROUND:
Each year the City Council has gone dark for specific Council Meetings during the summer and has had to cancel meetings that fall on holidays and/or reschedule meetings due to conflicts that come up for various reasons. Incoming Mayor Raymond Gregory has requested that a calendar be prepared for 2026 defining a meeting schedule so that Council and staff can be prepared for the coming year and also ensures greater transparency for the general public.
DISCUSSION:
The following is a summary of the proposed meeting scheduled for 2026:

Proposed Special City Council Meeting - 2:00 p.m. - January 7, 2026 Study Session and Regular Council Meeting - January 14, 2026 Study Session and Regular Council Meeting - January 28, 2026 February
Special City Council Meeting – Strategic Plan Workshop - 8:00 a.m. February 7, 2026 Study Session and Regular Council Meeting - February 11, 2026 Study Session and Regular Council Meeting - February 25, 2026 March
Study Session and Regular Council Meeting - March 11, 2026 Study Session and Regular Council Meeting - March 25, 2026 April
Study Session and Regular Council Meeting - April 8, 2026 Study Session and Regular Council Meeting - April 22, 2026 May

Cancel the Study Session and Regular Council Meeting -September 9, 2026 Cancel the Study Session and Regular Council Meeting - September 23, 2026 Proposed Special City Council Meeting - September 16, 2026 Labor Day is Monday, September 7, 2026 and the League of California Cities Annual Conference begins on September 23, 2026. It is proposed to hold a Special Meeting on September 16, 2026; however, there is a high possibility this will conflict with the regularly scheduled meetings of the Architectural Review Committee and the Planning Commission.

Cancel the Study Session and Regular Council Meeting - November 11, 2026 Cancel the Study Session and Regular Council Meeting - November 25, 2026 Proposed Special City Council Meeting - November 10, 2026 Veteran’s Day is on November 11, 2026, and the second meeting in November is typically canceled due to Thanksgiving. It is proposed that a special meeting be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, which will conflict with the Public Arts Commission Meeting.
December
Study Session and Regular Council Meeting - December 9, 2026 Cancel the Study Session and Regular Council Meeting - December 23, 2026 The second meeting in December is typically canceled due to the Christmas Holiday.
Staff prepared a calendar of the proposed schedule, which is attached for your review. Once the dates have been confirmed, a final calendar will be provided to the City Council and published for the general public.
