Title: Approval of the Parks and Community Events Commission support of the Family Fitness Festival - 2026
RECOMMENDATION:
To approve $2,000 from the Parks and Community Events Commission (PACE) FY 2025-2026 PACE Small Events Budget to support the Family Fitness Festival for April 2026.
BACKGROUND:
The Parks and Community Events Commission (PACE) continue to support programs and events that enhance quality of life, promote community engagement, and expand access to services for Cathedral City residents. As part of the approved Fiscal Year 2025-2026 budget, PACE was allocated $10,000 annually to support small-scale community events held in city parks. This may include services and/or materials, or a combination thereof, related to the event to assist in the event’s success. All events initiated to receive funding from this budget item are first vetted by PACE and upon PACE’s favorable recommendation, these events are then brought before the City Council for final approval of funding.
At the March 3, 2026, PACE meeting, the Commissioners reviewed and approved the proposed Family Fitness Festival at the Cathedral City Community Amphitheatre and recommended the City Council approve $2,000 in funding to support the festival. The festival was sponsored by Chair Erin Hyland, who brought the proposal forward for the Commission's consideration.
The Family Fitness Festival is a free, community-oriented event designed to promote physical activity, wellness, and community connection.
DISCUSSION:
The Family Fitness Festival is scheduled for Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Cathedral City Community Amphitheater. The event is free and open to the public and is designed to promote physical activity, wellness, and community connection among residents of all ages. The festival emphasizes inclusivity and encourages participation across generations.
The event will feature local fitness professionals and wellness businesses offering a series of 20- minute workout sessions throughout the morning. Planned activities include dance cardio, interval training, Pilates, yoga, and a sound bath experience. Several sessions will be offered bilingually in English and Spanish to ensure accessibility for a broader cross section of the community.
The event will conclude with a “Connect and Reflect” period from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m., during which attendees may visit community tables hosted by local organizations, service providers, and businesses. Participation by these groups will be informational in nature and is intended to increase awareness of local programs, services, and wellness resources available within the community.

Instructors selected for the event were those who confirmed availability for the April 4, 2026, event date and who are recognized and established fitness professionals within the community. Selection was based on availability, experience, and ability to provide diverse and inclusive programming aligned with the event’s wellness-focused goals.
Each instructor will receive a flat workshop stipend of $75. Instructors will submit an invoice to the city following the event, similar to the established payment process used for the City’s Yoga in the Park program. Payments will be processed through the City’s Finance Department and issued by check in accordance with standard City vendor payment procedures.
At the March 3, 2026, meeting, the Parks and Community Events Commission formally approved the Family Fitness Festival and recommended City Council approve $2,000 in funding from the FY 2025- 2026 PACE Small Events Budget to support the event.
