Dear Deanna.

I write in support of a sign topper for Richard Altman. This one will set precedence, as the others in the Cove have honored deceased residents, and Richard is alive and well. I believe that his significant contributions will set a high bar for others who may be proposed.

Richard has made important contributions to our community through business innovation, philanthropy, and advocacy. As the proprietor of the Cathedral City Boys Club (CCBC) he has made the resort hotel a major destination for the LGBTQ community, and a few years ago, built a restaurant on the grounds, which is open to the public. Richard was instrumental in establishing Cathedral City’s annual Pride event that celebrates diversity and inclusion and boosts tourism and the economy.

Richard is the past President of the Boys and Girls Club Board, during which time he made substantial enhancements to the facility. The Cathedral City Senior Center named a room ‘Richard G. and Anne K. Altman Craft Corner’ due to his generous gift. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Chamber of Commerce, among many other honors.

Richard Altman is widely respected for his visionary leadership, philanthropy, and eƯorts to foster an inclusive and thriving Cathedral City.

I have known Richard for 15 years, and although others will write more detailed descriptions about what he has done for the City, I need to say that he is truly a gentleman.

He is here to listen, give advice, and help as needed.

Selecting Richard as the first living recipient of a sign topper on Gay Resort Way is a tribute to how the City cares and honors its involved residents, whether financially or as active participants. Through Richard’s presence, he has created a lasting positive change; a legacy to be proud of.

Thank you for your consideration,

Sue Townsley
