From: Christina Burton, City Clerk
Title: Ratify the Nomination by Councilmember Ross to Appoint John Rivera to Serve on the Planning Commission for a Three-year Term to Expire June 30, 2029
RECOMMENDATION:

To ratify the nomination by Councilmember Nancy Ross to appoint John Rivera to serve on the Planning Commission for a three-year term continuing through June 30, 2029.

BACKGROUND:

The terms of appointment and term limits for City Commissions and Committees are established by the Cathedral City Municipal Code. Unless otherwise specified by law, ordinance, resolution, or other applicable authority, members of City Commissions and Committees serve three-year terms.

At the June 10, 2026 City Council meeting, the City Council ratified and made appointments to two vacancies on the Planning Commission. The nominations were made by Councilmember Gordon who nominated Colby Gregory and Councilmember Ross who nominated Todd Hooks. On July 6, 2026 Mr. Hooks sent an email to the City Clerk advising her that he would be unable to accept the appointment.

DISCUSSION:

The City received seven applications from parties interested in serving on the Planning Commission when the position was first advertised from April 1, 2026, through May 6, 2026.

The remaining five applications were provided to Councilmember Ross to review.

Councilmember Ross has nominated John Rivera to fill the vacant seat on the Planning Commission.
