Letter of Interest for Planning Commission Vacancy from Rich Malacoff I would like to be reappointed as a Planning Commissioner from District 2, from Council Member Nancy Ross.
For the past three years I have been on the Commission and was a Vice-Chair and Chair of the Commission which was an honor to do and gave me experience at chairing a Commission Meeting. I showed leadership by providing detailed analysis on projects and recommendations on how to make projects better to raise the bar in Cathedral City. It has been one of the great honors of my life in providing this service to the community My educational experience includes the following: Bachelot’s Degree in Geography rom Florida State University and a Master’s Degree in City Planning from Hunter College of the City University of New York. In addition, I have passed the exam from the American Institute of City Planners (AICP) which makes me a Certified Planner from the American Planning Association.
My work experience includes the following positions:
• Community Assistant with the City of New York. Work included processing Loft Conversion Applications per the City’s Zoning Ordinance. • Associate Planner with the City of Redlands. Work included staffing the Preliminary Review Committee, Environment Review Committee, and Historic Preservation Committee and processing applications before these groups. In addition, I processed Development Projects for consistency with Local and State Laws and made the appropriate presentations at Planning Commission and City Council.
• Senior Planner at the City of Cathedral City. Work included processing development applications and presenting them to the Planning Commission and City Council for approval. I also wrote Amendments to the Zoning Ordinance and Specific Plans to solve development issues and to streamline the development process. Lastly, my favorite thing was assisting people at the counter and helping them solve development issues with the City and find success with their homes and businesses.
• Senior Planner/Acting Director City of Desert Hot Springs. Work included processing development applications and presenting to Planning Commission and City Council. Lastly, I identified development issues and wrote Ordinances to solve development issues. Like Redlands, my favorite activity was assisting people at the Counter and helping them find success with their homes and businesses.
I would be honored for the City Council to reappoint me to the Planning Commission so I can continue to provide service to the Community and ensure that we get quality development. If reappointed, I look forward to providing more service to the Community.
