Hello,
I am a resident of Oakland writing in to voice my support for AVA sourcing electricity from the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant.
AVA sources over a quarter of its electricity mix from “Unspecified Sources of Power”. This euphemism shouldn’t fool anyone; this unspecified portion is sourcing from carbon-based energy. Much of it is imported from Arizonan coal and gas plants. Labeling it “Unspecified Source of Power” is sweeping this dirty truth under the metaphorical rug.
If we are to treat the climate crisis like the crisis it is, we need to source electricity from all available carbon-free options.
We can’t afford to wait until renewable energy is able to supply our electrical needs 24/7.
Pragmatism needs to prevail. Demanding carbon-free electricity while rejecting nuclear is akin to a dog refusing to release a frisbee while asking you to throw it. Nuclear energy is a clean and safe option. We need to use it.
Thank you,
Henry Dorfman
