Manager:

The SFPUC needs a comprehensive evaluation of its records management system that will need to include and reflect its equity and inclusion objectives. A benefit of having a new position approved allows for a thoughtful reimagining of how our agency promotes transparency and consistency between the enterprises and bureaus within a rapidly changing environment. We see this as an opportunity for us to prioritize fostering equity as we shape our overall goals and measurable deliverables. In partnership with our Racial Equity Team, we aim to develop and implement standardized, consistent practices throughout the agency. Improved management of our data provides greater transparency and efficiency in our business practices, decision making, and self- assessments through an equity lens. This position will directly work with and interact with all enterprises and bureaus in the agency and is a member of the executive team. As part of the hiring process, we will encourage internal candidates to apply, prioritize candidates with strong experience and attention to detail rather than education credentials, and are willing to invest in passionate candidates who may lack specific records management skills yet demonstrate exceptional organizational skills. This program will identify and address challenges facing the SFPUC Water, Power and Wastewater Enterprises. This role will require collaboration with the General Manager and Assistant General Managers. Specific duties include decision making responsibilities on the direction of the program, directing SFPUC staff to implement elements of the program, and coordinating with internal and external partners at a senior level, including City Attorney’s Office, Mayors Office, City Departments and Industry Organizations. This position will establish policies and procedures to facilitate and streamline the adoption of new technologies, utility practices, environmental strategies, and partnerships that enhance operations and efficient delivery of utility services.

We propose creating two essential positions—a Data Analyst and a Management Assistant. The Data Analyst will drive evidence-based decision-making, collect and analyze critical diversity data, and provide insights to inform targeted interventions. The Management Assistant will streamline administrative tasks, ensuring the Chief Diversity Officer focuses squarely on strategic DEI planning and execution. These investments are pivotal in accelerating progress toward a more inclusive, equitable, and diverse organizational community.

1 87,563 Adding a Management Assistant position dedicated to supporting the Chief Diversity Officer (CDEIO) is crucial to ensure the effective implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives within our organization. This role will be an anchor in facilitating seamless coordination and efficient operations within the Office of the Chief Diversity Officer. The Management Assistant will be pivotal in managing administrative tasks, scheduling, and communications, allowing the CDEIO to focus more deeply on strategic DEI planning and execution. By taking on responsibilities such as calendar management, document preparation, and stakeholder liaison, the Management Assistant will free up valuable time for the CDO to engage in high-level decision-making and engagement with key stakeholders across the organization. This addition will enhance the CDEIO's effectiveness in driving DEI initiatives and streamline operational processes, leading to a more inclusive and cohesive work environment.
