BACKGROUND
The OCPA Risk Oversight Committee meets quarterly to provide insights into energy markets, renewable energy trends, and trends in Southern California Edison (SCE) rates. On September 17, 2024, Chair Jung recommended forming an Ad Hoc Committee (Committee) of the Board to review OCPA’s power procurement strategies. He appointed himself and Director Treseder to this committee. The Committee, in collaboration with OCPA staff, is tasked with reporting any recommended changes to the Board before the end of the year, aiming to optimize OCPA’s power procurement strategy for future years.
On November 5, 2024, the OCPA staff discussed the financial outlook with the Committee, focusing on challenges posed by the uncontrollable energy market and SCE rate changes, as well as the opportunities for mitigating energy costs.
