Hi Nelly,
This is the public comment that I was hoping to make this evening. Are you able to circulate this to all board members? Please let me know and thank you very much for your help.

Honorable Board Members – thank you for the opportunity to comment this evening. I would like to request that each of you work with your local jurisdictions to send an official letter to the State legislature formally opposing Assembly Bill 306. This bill is terribly problematic in both known and unknown ways. One of many things that we know for sure is that this bill would prevent local governments from adopting reach codes, a critical tool needed to achieve our City and County climate goals. To date, the author has shown very little willingness to amend the bill in meaningful ways. So, please have your Council or Board approve sending an opposition letter to the bill author (Schultz), copying the chairs of the Senate Housing Committee (Wahab) and Senate Local Government Committee (Durazo). While an outright opposition to this bill is strongly preferred, if your jurisdiction would rather take an oppose unless amended position, exempting existing buildings from this bill is the most critical amendment. It is very important that the legislature, particularly the Senate at this point, hear from local governments with their concerns as soon as possible. Thank you very much.

Sincerely,
John McKenna
