I am writing to comment on Agenda Item 19 regarding the Solar Battery Savings Residential Program Relaunch.
My name is Ben Airth, Policy Director at Freedom Forever, a national solar and storage company serving all of California including the San Diego region.
I strongly support the relaunch of the Solar Battery Savings Residential Program and respectfully ask for the board's continued support of this important initiative.
Providing incentives for solar-paired batteries is an important way to support residential customers of SDCP to install storage, which adds significant value to the grid and helps all customers that SDCP serves. Battery storage systems provide peak load reduction and resource adequacy, enhance grid resilience, provide backup power during outages, and help optimize clean energy usage throughout our community.
I particularly appreciate that SDCP understands the need to support San Diego's residential solar industry and is providing resources and programs that the incumbent utility should be providing but is not. This leadership in clean energy incentives demonstrates SDCP's commitment to both customers and the local solar workforce.
Programs like these are especially important given the current upheaval at the federal level, including the harmful impacts that the One Big Beautiful Bill has had on our industry. Local initiatives like SDCP's Solar Battery Savings Program provide crucial stability and support to help sustain the residential solar industry during these challenging times.
