MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CERRITOS CITY COUNCIL AND THE SUCCESSOR AGENCY TO THE CERRITOS REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY HELD WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26, 2025, 7:00 PM, IN THE MAIN THEATER AT THE CERRITOS CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS, 18000 PARK PLAZA DRIVE, CERRITOS, CA 90703.
1. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.
REORDERING OF THE AGENDA
At this juncture, the City Council, by consensus, reordered the agenda to install the newly elected Councilmembers (Item 2) after the Pledge of Allegiance/National Anthem (Item 4).
2. Installation of newly elected Councilmembers
Ernie Nishii, President, ABC Unified School District Board of Education, and Toan Nguyen, Deputy Superintendent and Chief Financial Officer, ABC Unified School District, administered the Oath of Office to newly elected Council/Agency Member Sophia M. Tse.
John Wu, Mayor, City of San Gabriel, administered the Oath of Office to newly elected Council/Agency Member Jennifer Hong.
Rob Bonta, Attorney General, State of California, administered the Oath of Office to newly elected Council/Agency Member Mark E. Pulido.
3. Invocation
The invocation was given by Father John C. Cordero, Holy Family Catholic Church.
4. Pledge of Allegiance/National Anthem
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Maddox Yokoyama and family members.
The National Anthem was sung by Elisha Heartlyn Tuazon, Cerritos High School student.
5. Roll Call
The following members of the City Council/Successor Agency were in attendance:

6. Annual Mayoral Transition (Selection of Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem)
Cynthia Nava, City Clerk, declared the office of Mayor/Chair vacant and called for nominations for the office of Mayor/Chair.
Council/Agency Member Pulido nominated Council/Agency Member Yokoyama for the office of Mayor/Chair.
Noting there were no further nominations, the City Clerk declared nominations closed.

6. Annual Mayoral Transition (Selection of Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem) (continued)
MOTION: As nominated by Council/Agency Member Pulido, and seconded by Council/Agency Member Johnson, Council/Agency Member Yokoyama was presented for consideration as Mayor/Chair (COUNCIL/SUCCESSOR AGENCY).
The motion carried (5 - 0) as follows:
AYES: Hong, Johnson, Pulido, Tse, Yokoyama
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None
The City Clerk declared Council/Agency Member Yokoyama as Mayor/Chair.
Mayor Yokoyama declared the office of Mayor Pro Tem/Vice Chair vacant and called for nominations for the office of Mayor Pro Tem/Vice Chair.
Council/Agency Member Pulido nominated Council/Agency Member Johnson for the office of Mayor Pro Tem/Vice Chair.
Noting there were no further nominations, Mayor Yokoyama declared nominations closed.

The Mayor opened the public comments period.
A number of additional individuals and groups offered congratulations to the newly elected City Council, and the newly selected Mayor Pro Tem and newly selected Mayor.
Seeing no further speakers, the Mayor declared the public comments period closed.
8. Closing Comments (Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem, and Councilmembers)
Comments were made by Councilmembers Hong, Tse, and Pulido, Mayor Pro Tem Johnson, and Mayor Yokoyama.
Mayor Yokoyama invited the community to a reception at the Sierra Room.
