Customer Assistance Programs
» Our programs are designed to help residential customers with limited income and/or medical needs manage their utility bills.
California Alternate Rate for Energy
(CARE)
CARE program offers eligible SoCalGas customers a 20% discount on their monthly natural gas bill. The discount will be applied to the monthly SoCalGas bills following the date the application is approved.
Energy Savings Assistance Program An energy efficiency program which offers no-cost energy-saving measures and minor home repairs to income qualified homeowners AND renters.
Medical Baseline Allowance Provides additional DAILY allowance of gas, at the lowest baseline rate for people with a qualifying medical condition (s). Eligibility is based on medical condition only; NOT on income.
Arrearage Management Plan (AMP) Provides an opportunity for qualifying residential customers to have their eligible past due bills forgiven. Must already be enrolled in CARE.

» Eligibility is determined by income based on number of household members. Income levels adjust regularly.
» For example, current eligibility for a household of 4 has an income limit of $66,000.
» Those customers on qualifying public assistance
programs are automatically eligible.
» Eligibility requirements are set by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).

» May be helpful for those who want a consistent bill over the year without seasonal variation.
» Pay the same amount each month while on the program.
» Calculated based on average annual usage and predicted future usage. Adjusted every six months.
» While not a discount program, it can provide greater predictability for your bill throughout the year.
» Available for qualifying customers using less than 3,000 therms/year.
