COMMITTEE (ADVISORY BOARDS) MEETING SCHEDULES
BACKGROUND
The City Council/Successor Agency (Council/Agency) conducts its official business in regularly scheduled public forums (regular meetings) in compliance with California's Open Meeting laws (The Ralph M. Brown Act (Cal. Gov. Code§ 54950, et seq.). State law and the Cerritos City Charter (Charter) require the Council to establish the date, time, and place of its regular meetings via adopted ordinance or resolution. Once an ordinance or resolution setting the regular meeting schedule is adopted, no further approval of the ongoing regular meeting schedule is required by law.
Accordingly, Council/Agency regular meetings are held on the second and fourth Monday of each month, commencing at 7:00 p.m., at Cerritos City Hall (City Council Chamber) in accordance with Ordinance No. 1051. State law and the Charter also permit the Council/Agency to hold occasional special meetings in accordance with the agenda posting and publication provisions of the Ralph M. Brown Act and pursuant to City Policy No. 9.03 - Agenda Publication, Posting, and Delivery Policy. However, the Charter limits the transaction of certain business items to its regular meetings. These items include adoption of the annual City budget and adoption of most ordinances.
Additionally, over the years, and in the spirit of encouraging and inviting the participation and input of its residents, the City of Cerritos has established various community Commissions and Committees (Advisory Boards). The Advisory Boards apprise the City Council on various subject matters within the City's jurisdiction and serve as the City Council's liaisons to the community with regard to their designated duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority. The City currently has seven (7) Advisory Boards, inclusive of five (5) Commissions and two (2) Committees, established by resolution and/or ordinance, whose regular meetings days and times are currently codified in the Cerritos Municipal Code.
