The following proclamations will be announced by the City Council:
National Hispanic Heritage Month
2008
The Cerritos City Council proclaims September 15 to October 15 as National Hispanic Heritage Month. What began as a week-long celebration in 1968, expanded to a 30-day period on August 17, 1988. During this time of celebration, the City of Cerritos recognizes the histories, cultures, and the contributions of those whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America and the lasting impacts of their sacrifices that helped shape the world we live in today.
Filipino American History Month
The Cerritos City Council proclaims the month of October as Filipino American History Month. October 1992 was the first celebration of Filipino American History Month in the United States, and it has been celebrated annually since. It is a time of recognition of the important cultural and historical contributions that Filipino Americans have made in our country and within the City of Cerritos.
Hindu Heritage Month
The Cerritos City Council proclaims the month of October as Hindu Heritage Month.
Celebrations of the rich heritage and recognition of the cultural and historical contributions of the Hindu community within the City of Cerritos and the nation are a vital part of our society. Navratri, Dussehra, and Diwali are celebrations that promote inclusivity, highlight cultural performances, and encourage educational and spiritual discussions.
