November 15, 2022 City Council Minutes Page|2
5.1. CONSIDERATION OF RENAMING THE AIRPORT
In 2019, the Airport Commission discussed a rebranding effort to include renaming Chico Municipal Airport to establish more of a regional approach. An Ad Hoc Committee was formed to work through rebranding and renaming ideas. At the August 25, 2020 meeting the Airport Commission directed staff to forward the four recommended names to a future marketing consultant for further consideration when the timing is better for air service development. During recent air service development efforts staff have received feedback from catchment area stakeholders asking why marketing taglines such as "Choose Chico" and "Help Chico Fly" are Chico-centric versus a regional message. Mayor Andrew Coolidge learned of these comments and received full Council approval to agendize renaming Chico Municipal Airport. (Erik Gustafson, Public Works Director - Operations and Maintenance
