INDUSTRIAL
As the holiday season approaches, the City of Chino is committed to ensuring the safety and security of our local businesses and shoppers. Retail theft is a significant concern during this time of year, and the Chino Police Department is taking proactive measures to address the issue.
In the past two years, Chino has seen a concerning increase in retail theft, with a 53% rise last year and an additional 10% increase in the first five months of this year. Recognizing the urgent need to combat this trend, the City approved four new police positions after the passage of Measure V, with two officers specifically assigned to a new Retail Theft Team.
The team, established in June, has already made a measurable impact. Since its implementation, Chino has seen a 10% decrease in retail theft. The team has been instrumental in responding to organized theft incidents and making arrests, including suspects responsible for stealing over $70,000 in merchandise.
“Our Retail Theft Team is working diligently as we head into the holiday season,” said Police Chief Mensen. “We will be out there conducting operations, making arrests, and ensuring that these individuals aren’t coming into our City to victimize our businesses.
Our goal is to create a safe shopping environment for our community and support our local businesses.”
