Jaan De Leon
Jaan De Leon
Hello Mayor Salas and city council members, my name is Jaan De Leon and I go to school at Bonita Vista High.

I strongly encourage you to approve the resolution to declare the climate emergency in Chula Vista because climate change is going to be a great threat for the future. From an IPCC report, it stated the cause of climate change is going to effect many places on the world, and that includes Chula Vista. If we start now and show an example or other cities, they may join and slowly become more carbon efficient.

Madison Knudson
Hello Mayor Salas and city council members, my name is Madison Knudson and I go to school at Bonita Vista High.

I strongly encourage you to approve the resolution to declare a climate emergency in Chula Vista. This resolution will urge people to take global action to secure a livable and sustainable future for all. This is one of the greatest threats to my future and needs to be addressed.

Brooke Rivera Llanes
Hello Mayor Salas and city council members, my name is Brooke Rivera Llanes and I go to school at Bonita Vista High.

I strongly recommend you to accept the resolution to declare a climate emergency in Chula Vista.

- This resolution is step one in showing that Chula Vista is serious about climate change and addressing the impacts of climate change.

Destiny A.

Good afternoon Mayor Salas and city council members, my name is Destiny Ramirez and I am a 9th grade student at Bonita Vista High School.

I strongly encourage you to approve and allow for the resolution to pass declaring a climate emergency in Chula Vista.

The most recent IPCC 6 report urges for action to be made among communities for adaptation and mitigation.

There is a closing chance for an ensured livable and sustainable future for all and there needs to be action now.

Please vote to support the resolution today. Thank you! Fernando Cavazos
Hello Mayor Salas and the city council members. My name is Fernando Cavazos and i go to Bonita Vista High school. I strongly encourage you to approve the resolution to declare a climate emergency in Chula Vista.

This climate problem is a very strong threat to the future of not only San Diego or America, but the whole world. It will be nearly impossible to sustain a liveable planet if we don't take action right now. This resolution serves as a commitment to us, the youth, that you as leaders will use the most up to date science to guide your climate policies and make real change.

Marco Clavel
Hello Mayor Salas and city council members, my name is Marco Clavel and I go to school at Bonita Vista High School. And I feel neutral about the climate crisis because climate change is bad and it is affecting the world for example it’s killing coral reefs and the temperature is rising. On the other hand, climate change is already here we waited too long to make a change so we can stop it but we can slow it down.

Larry West
Support: I hope Chula Vista's plans include something like loans for heat-pump water heaters, which use much less electricity (and don't burn gas), and emit cool air as a side benefit, and pay for the extra cost in perhaps 4 years.

Fabiola Lao
Good evening, Mayor Salas and Council Members. My name is Fabiola Lao, and I strongly urge you to approve tonight the resolution declaring a Climate Emergency. My family has been living in Chula Vista for over 22 years (in Districts 2, 3 and 4), and we’ve been experiencing first-hand the impacts that climate change is having on our community and quality of life. Whether it’s extreme heat waves, drought conditions, bad air quality, or more recently, hail, which is very uncharacteristic for our City. Chula Vista has been a climate change leader in San Diego County, and adopting this resolution will continue to show others in and outside of our region that our City continues to be committed to meaningful climate action. Thank you.

Claudia Alexa Castruita
Hello Mayor Salas and council members, my name is Alexa Castruita and I am a student from Hilltop High School in support of declaring a climate emergency in Chula Vista. Many constituents are privileged enough to never feel the true effects of the crisis, but you all being representatives of a primarily Black, Indigenous, and People of Color community, it is your duty to put forth the best actions for the city at large, being that this communities are consistently the smallest contributors and the ones who unfairly experience the impacts the most. You were given this position for a reason--and opposing this declaration is a complete lack of responsibility on your parts. The city of Chula Vista--every single resident--depends on your commitment to forging a better world for tomorrow.

Stephanie Liang
Dear Mayor Salas and city council members,
My name is Stephanie Liang and I am a freshman at Bonita Vista High. I strongly urge you to vote in favor of the resolution to declare a climate emergency in Chula Vista due to several reasons. First of all, the IPCC’s sixth report stated that there’s a rapidly closing window to save our future from the damage climate change has caused. I’m concerned about what the future will look like if no action is taken to reduce the impacts. Not only is my own future in danger, but the futures of my friends, my family, and the generations to come are in danger as well. Secondly, by voting in favor of this resolution, Chula Vista can show other cities, countries, and the whole world that we are taking action. That we are doing something in an attempt to save the future of our lives and the planet we live on. This can put pressure on other places to take action too. Lastly, this resolution not only shows the opinions and thoughts of those who wrote it, but of students like myself. We can do what we can at home and in our own lives to reduce our contribution to climate change, but ultimately, we can’t do as much as those in a high position such as yourselves. However, we can encourage you all to vote in favor of this resolution to show that we want things to change. That we want something to be done. That we want to take action. Please vote to support this vital and important resolution today!

Sincerely,
BVH freshman, Stephanie Liang
Karen Baeza
Hello Mayor Salas and city council members, my name is Karen Baeza and I go to school at Bonita Vista High School.

I strongly urge you to approve the resolution to declare a climate emergency in Chula Vista. This resolution is able to shift our views so we can be able to build a better future for all. As a young person, I am very frustrated as to why we haven’t made changes sooner. This resolution is allowing us to have a chance for a bright future. There is a strong need for action to be taken because the effects of climate change are detrimental to the environment and humanity.

Jack Fan
Hello mayor Salas and city council members, my name is Jack Fan and I go to school at Bonita Vista High School

I support the actions of the authority over the current situation and the demands. But however, there are more decisions that are related can be stated clear to make, such as restrictions on smog tests and a more credible possibility to further prove that the vehicle has passed. And show more support for electrical vehicles.

Isaac Petzoldt
Good day Mayor Salas and city council members, my name is Isaac Petzoldt and I attend Bonita Vista High.

This climate crisis is one of the greats threats to my and future generations lives. This resolution provides as a promise to the world that we will keep up to date with and do something about our planetary health. This resolution will mark the first step Chula Vista has taken to combat climate change.

Michelle
Hello mayor sales and city council members, my name is Michelle and i go to Bonita vista High School. I strongly encourage you to approve the resolution to declare a climate emergency in Chula Vista. I agree with it because i think that climate change has an extreme negative impacts on our environment and i think that its important that we draw attention to it so we can do something about it santiago medina
Hello, Mayor Salas I strongly encourage you to approve the resolution to declare a climate emergency in Chula Vista.

-The climate and its worsening state is going to catastrophically damage my future and others’ futures as well and we need our local leaders to do something about this to protect our futures -The resolution is a way that Chula Vista is showing that its community is serious about wanting to make a change about our climate and environment.

Sophia Hirsch
Hello Mayor Salas and city council members,

My name is Sophia Hirsch and I go to school at Bonita Vista High School.

I urge you to approve the resolution to declare a climate emergency in Chula Vista. This resolution is finally a step in the right direction to helping this planet and the people of this planet. It is a wake-up call for the people who thought that we as a humanity are in a “comfortable” state and that we have nothing to worry about. However, we do have to worry about this, the future of near-upcoming generations is at stake, and most cities idly stand by? The difference is, will Chula Vista idly stand by, or take action towards helping the people of this wonderful planet.

Please vote in support of the resolution today!
Thank you for your time.

Ivan correia
I agree with many others that we should make different ways to cross the street on busy streets such as bridges or putting cones Judith Schlebecker
I live in San Diego and support 7.1. We are in a climate emergency backed up by evidence including the most recent U.N. report. We must recognize that the city and its people need to do whatever it takes to reduce our carbon footprint.

Ruth Arnett Jordan
As a 45 year resident of CV and WOSB (woman owned small business) in the "regenerative" space, I strongly support the city's declaration of a climate emergency. Regeneration is several steps beyond sustainability. With regeneration, damage is not only stopped but reversed by supporting the Earth to heal. For those of us already actively engaged in bringing the technology and creating community alliances to make regeneration happen, having the City at our backs will make it much easier to take the swift action required to make the change that's needed happen. Thank you for your time.

Karl Aldinger
Sierra Club San Diego supports the declaration of a Climate Emergency in the City of Chula Vista. We are failing to meet the magnitude of the challenge, and publicly declaring a climate emergency will help reset the community's understanding of the depth of the problem. In addition, declaring an emergency will help bolster efforts that staff and officials are making regarding solutions, and will solidify the city's commitment, even if some future officials or community members do not fully understand the depth of the emergency.

We ask that the Mayor and City Council declare a climate emergency and use that declaration to inform and shape all future policies.

Thank you.

The climate crisis is one of the greatest threats to my future. this will impact me for the rest of my life and continuing for generations over if we do not fix the current clement crisis.

Dr. Kay Henderson
Please vote to support item 7.1. Our future requires wise decisions now.

Savanna Ramirez
Hello Mayor Salas and council members, my name is Savanna Ramirez and I go to Hilltop High School I strongly encourage you to approve the resolution to declare a climate emergency in Chula Vista, because The climate crisis is one of the greatest threats to our future and we need our leaders now to do everything they can to make sure we inherit a livable planet.

Jannelle De Los Santos
Hello mayor Salas and council members, my name is Jannelle De Los Santos and I attend Hilltop high school. I believe the climate crisis is one of the greatest threats to my future and we need our leaders now to do everything they can to make sure we inherit a livable planet.

Gina Woodard
As a resident of Chula Vista and a high school teacher, I encourage the City of Chula Vista to take action to pass the resolution to declare a climate emergency. Impacts of climate change are affecting our community already, and taking immediate action is vital. Our students are already taking action on our campuses. Our Youth 4 a Sustainable Future team of student volunteers are helping to reduce methane emissions by diverting food waste from our landfill and recovering food to supply food insecure residents. Please join cities in California and across the country in voting unanimously to support of the Climate Emergency Declaration resolution tonight. We owe this to our families and children. Thank you.

Nicole
Hello mayor Salas and city council members, My name is Nicole and i go to Bonita Vista High school. I strongly Encourage you to approve The resolution to declare a climate emergency in Chula vista. Climate change has been rising and it still is but we are still in time to do something about it. This resolution is good so that people will start releasing how serious climate change is. Climate change is a rising problem that surprisingly not many people acknowledge so this resolution could open peoples eyes more.

Please vote to support the resolution today! Thank You! Daniela Price
Hello Mayor Salas and council members, my name is Daniela Price and I attend Hilltop High school. I highly recommend for you to vote to approve the resolution due to the fact that that it will affect the younger generations.

Patricia Bessie
Hello Mayor Salas and council members, my name is Patricia Bessie and I go to school at Hilltop High School. I strongly encourage you to approve the resolution to declare a climate emergency in Chula Vista. I strongly recommend you to approve the resolution to declare a climate emergency in Chula Vista. I believe the climate crisis is one of the greatest threats to my future, so we need our leaders to do everything they can to ensure a livable planet for future generations.

Enyssa Dominguez
Hello Mayor Sales and city council mayors, my name is Enyssa Dominguez and I attend Bonita Vista High school. I strongly believe that you should approve the resolution to declare a climate emergency in Chula Vista. One of the greatest threats to my future is the climate issue, and we need our leaders to act now to ensure that we inherit a livable Earth. Climate change has the potential to modify where species dwell, how they interact, and when biological processes occur, thereby transforming ecosystems and food webs. Climate change has the potential to exceed ecosystems' ability to cope with catastrophic events and disturbances like wildfires, floods, and drought.

Please vote to support the resolution today! Thank you! jamie sanchez
Hello Mayor Salas and city council members, my name is Jamie Sanchez. I'm a global scholar and I go to school at Bonita Vista High School. The climate crisis is one of the greatest threats to my future and we need our leaders now to do everything they can to make sure we inherit a livable planet. What i feel about climate change is i feel bad because it changes every time and i think it just makes me upset because when it's really hot you can get a heat stroke and can be very dangerous for many people i for our future it can be very deadly too. Thank you for your time to read this, have a great day.

Kaitlin Bertrand
Dear Mayor Salas and city council members,

My name is Kaitlin Bertrand and I attend school at Bonita Vista High.

I strongly advocate that you approve the resolution to declare a climate emergency in Chula Vista. Personally, I feel exceptionally betrayed due to climate change because the humans in power are choosing to not take action on this excessively crucial matter.

According to the Washington Post article titled “Humanity has a ‘brief and rapidly closing window’ to avoid a hotter, deadly future, U.N. climate report says,” they state “The destruction and loss of life is not in the future; it is happening now, today,” said Chikondi Chabvuta, the Malawi-based Southern Africa advocacy leader for Care International.”. This means that it's “now or never”; we must act now.

I am a part of Global Scholars at Bonita Vista High School, in which the students involved civically engage with our community and the happenings all around the world. So, I hope that you highly consider my belief that Chula Vista is indeed in a climate emergency.

Sincerely,

Kaitlin Bertrand
jazmine enriquez
Dear Mayor Salas,
My name is Jazmine Enriquez and I attend Bonita Vista High school. I strongly encourage and even urge you to approve the resolution and declare a climate emergency here in Chula Vista. The climate crisis is a huge part of my future and also one of the greatest threats. We need leaders to take action now while we still have the opportunity to make a brighter future for us and our planet. This resolution is an opportunity to educate people on the importance of climate change and the impacts it is imposing on our world. This resolution serves as a commitment to us, the youth, that you as leaders will use the most up to date science to guide your climate policies and make real change.

With respect, Jazmine Enriquez
Zachary Merghart
Dear mayor Salas and city council members my name is Zachary Merghart and I am a freshman who’s a part of the Global scholars program at Bonita Vista High school. I would very strongly urge you to please approve this resolution. I am deeply disappointed that we as humans are killing this planet and all the beautiful creatures that inhabit it. I am truly happy to see that there are people that are taking actions to help reduce climate change. I care so dearly. for the environment and this wonderful world that we live in and I do hope that there is still time to save it. When I grow up I would like to work in an animal rescue or shelter that helps take in harmed or injured wildlife and help them recover. I love all of the beautiful animals that roam this earth and I would not want us as humans to be the driving cause of their deaths. So I encourage you to please pass this resolution to save our world.

Sincerely Zachary Merghart
Madison Belle Garay
Hello Mayor Salas and city council members,
My name is Madison Belle Garay and I go to school at Bonita Vista High School. I strongly urge you to approve the resolution to declare a climate emergency in Chula Vista. In my English class we read the latest IPCC report and I feel that we need to take action as quickly and effectively as possible. I have been living in Chula Vista all my life and I am devastated knowing that maybe one day my home could go underwater due to sea level rising due to climate change. I am a part of one of the newer generations of the world and so far what climate change has done has threatened all. I do not want to have a risky future for myself and others. Being able to take action now instead of waiting for a terrible disaster to happen, we can adapt and be more prepared and hopefully prevent any further threats caused by climate change. Thank you for your time.

Jaume Arreola Blancafort
Hello Mayor Salas and city council members, my name is Jaume Arreola Blancafort and I go to Bonita Vista High School.

I very much recommend with earnestness that you approve the resolution to declare a climate crisis in Chula Vista. The climate crisis is one of the greatest threats I face in my near future and present, same with all my friends and family. This resolution would show commitment to ensure that climate change becomes weaker overtime and help ensure a good future for us, the next generation. The youth will remember this day if you pass the resolution serving as a memory of our commitment to helping each other as people that we care about.

Please vote to support the resolution today! Thank you! Sincerely, Jaume

Aaron Ponce
Hello Mayor Salas and city council members, my name is Aaron Ponce and I go to school at Bonita Vista High School. I strongly encourage you to approve the resolution to declare a climate emergency in Chula Vista because I feel scared of what further damage climate change can cause to us and the planet. Thank you.

Rico Araujo
Hello Mayor Salas and council members, my name is Rico Araujo and i go to school at Bonita Vista High school.

I strongly recommend you to approve the resolution to declare a climate emergency in Chula vista.

I was surprised to hear from IPCC that if we mess up once on trying to stop climate change then we can miss a rapidly closing window to live a good life and leave the world a better place. There has also been cumulative research that we need to get to stop climate change right now.

Thank you for listening
Jayden Walls
Hello Mayor Salas and city council members , my name is Jayden Walls and I go to school at Bonita Vista High School. I strongly encourage you to approve the resolution to declare a climate emergency in Chula Vista. The climate crisis is one of the greatest threats to my future and we need our leaders now to do everything they can to make sure we inherit a livable planet. This first step is to show that California wants to help save the world and how it could impact us. This resolution serves as a commitment to us, the youth, that you as leaders will use the latest science to guide climate change, and to make a huge impact on the world.

Sincerely, Jayden
Sebastian Shaul
The effects that climate change are coming, and while the older generation may not experience those effects, the youth will. There has been a great push led by a select few of older people, with much support coming from younger people. Us youth can support large and beneficial solutions as much as we want, but its up to adults and people in charge to make change. Once you're all gone, we'll be the ones dealing with the consequences. We youth urge you to declare a climate emergency, because it is already here.

Rita Clement
As you know, we have only 8 years left or even fewer years to meet the challenges presented to us by climate change. The solutions are available here and now but they need implementation and political action. Thank you for voting in favor of the SANDAG Regional Transit Plan. I hope you will support the Citizens Initiative Let’s Go San Diego for the November ballot. We must center equity in all these initiatives. Building Electrification for all new construction is essential to lower greenhouse gas emissions and methane emissions. Regenerative agriculture methods must be encouraged.

We must also support air quality monitoring and preserve our open spaces for farming. We cannot continue to build homes in high fire areas or long distances from job centers and transit.

Chula Vista can lead the region with our Climate Action Plan updates and coordination with the County of San Diego Regional Decarbonization Framework. I strongly encourage a unanimous vote in support of the Chula Vista Climate Emergency Declaration resolution tonight.

Matthew Vasilakis
On behalf of Climate Action Campaign, we urge the City of Chula Vista to join communities across the nation in declaring a climate emergency. As the climate crisis accelerates, it is critical that all governments recognize the dire situation at hand, and publicly pronounce a climate emergency to spur action to stop the worst impacts of climate change from happening. Please support the resolution. Thank you.

Steven Gelb
Chula Vista has an opportunity to raise its voice at a moment of grave danger for the city and the planet. The recent UN report on the climate crisis has been accurately described as "terrifying". We are in the midst of a cycle of changes that are becoming irreversible and which will devastate life as we know it. Please vote yes to recognize this emergency.

Toshihiko Ishihara
The IPCC report published today is giving us a stronger-than-ever warning about the impacts this planet is going to experience. The climate change is reaching its tipping point, which demands bold actions to rapidly reduce GHG emissions and prepare for the worst scenarios described by the report. I demand that City of Chula Vista adopts the resolution and commit to meaningful climate actions and becomes a regional climate leader.

Wendy Mihalic
California already suffers from the effects of climate change in the form of drought, air pollution, extreme heat, species stress, negative health effects, wildfires and floods and these disasters will become more severe as GHG emissions continue to poison the atmosphere.

I urge Chula Vista to join the 50 cities across California including San Diego, La Mesa, Carlsbad, Del Mar and Encinitas who have already issued similar declarations. Now more than ever it is important that the City of Chula Vista not only acknowledges the climate emergency but also commits to meaningful climate action.

Thank you
