I'm a lifelong resident of Chula Vista and served with CVPD for 25 years before retiring as a Captain in October 2020. I was involved in budget planning as a City employee for both Measure A and Measure P funds and understand the need for careful citizen oversight of scarce public dollars.
22. What would you hope to accomplish in the role of a Member of the Citizens' Oversight Committee? (250 words or less) Having experienced the City budget Pre-Measure A and Post Measure-A city budgets during my career, I appreciate the enormous impact that the sales tax income has had on critical infrastructure plans. My hope is to ensure appropriate transparency and oversight to demonstrate to the public that the funds are spent on the most pressing needs. This will, in turn, reassure the public that a 1/2 cent sales tax has a meaningful impact on their quality of life in Chula Vista as the funds are carefully allocated.
