Recommended Action
Council declare the following seat vacant: Sons and Daughters of Italy Representative on the Christopher Columbus Statue and Discovery Park Task Force, currently filled by Grace Sardina.
SUMMARY
Approval of this item will result in the Council declaring the Sons and Daughters of Italy (SDI) Representative seat on the Christopher Columbus Statue and Discovery Park Task Force vacant, due to the seated member no longer qualifying for the seat per SDI and in accordance with the Municipal Code.

DISCUSSION
Chula Vista Municipal Code (C VMC) section 2.25.105(C) requires that a board or commission seat become vacant, and be so declared by the City Council, when a member loses the status or classification that qualified the individual for his or her seat on a particular board or commission.
The Christopher Columbus Statue and Discovery Park Task Force was established by City Council Resolution 2021-132 and provided for a representative of the Sons and Daughters of Italy (SDI). The City Clerk received notification (Attachment 1) that Grace Sardina, the seated SDI representative on the Task Force, is no longer a member of SDI and that the organization wishes to nominate another representative.
Staff recommends the Council declare the seat vacant. Following the Human Relations Commission’s nomination of a new representative to fill the seat, a separate item will be presented to Council to consider ratifying the appointment.
