Subject: Public comments - city council meeting 1/ 24/ 23 Hello,
I am writing this email as I was having issues submitting comments through the website. This is in regards to the Chula Vista City Council meeting on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. With regard to the SANDAG representative from the city of Chula Vista, it is critical that the representative selected does not support the mileage tax. The mileage tax will not benefit anyone in the Chula Vista community. It directly harms the working class and lower wage earners. Think about a working single mother. How is she supposed to afford an additional $ 600 tax ( assuming she drives 15, 000 miles/ year)?! CA already has high vehicle registration fees and gasoline taxes. With the economic environment and record high inflation, our San Diego citizens cannot afford additional exorbitant taxes.
SANDAG has historically misused taxpayer funds and has lost the trust of the people. It would not be fiscally responsible to tax San Diego citizens based on the mileage driven to fund public transportation that is seeing declining rider participation.
Thank you for doing the right thing and selecting a representative that does not support the mileage tax.
Sincerely,
Grace Bennett
