I recently learned that in-person, municipal permitting is known to add considerable time and expense to solar installation projects. And that, as part of the federal government's plan to speed transition to clean energy, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in conjunction with building safety experts, created the solar automated permit processing tool (SolarAPP+). When this tool was tested in several cities, it was found to save homeowners substantial time and money on their solar projects.
The Solar Access Act was passed in California last year to incentivize homeowners to go solar. This act requires cities and counties to automate their permitting for residential rooftop solar systems. To encourage rapid transition to automated process permitting, The California Energy Commission is awarding grants to mucipalities adopting the federal SolarAPP+ software.
I am cheered by these government actions to battle climate crisis. As a Chula Vista resident, I would love to learn that Chula Vista is a leader in solar home promotion.
Is the City taking advantage of the Energy Commission's grant offer? Applications will only be accepted until May1, 2023.
The public may address the Council on any matter within the jurisdiction of the Council but not on the agenda.
