24. What are your principal areas of interest in our City government, and what experience or special knowledge can you bring to those areas?
As a Public Administration Graduate working on my Doctorate, I've always been interested in the workings of government to help support the citizens. I've been involved with the City of Chula Vista, County of San Diego (Veterans Advisor for District 1 previously) and other municipal endeavors. My principal area of interest is support of the City's Veterans but understand the connective nature of the various elements of city government. I've worked with Dept of Veterans Affairs, Dept of Defense (Naval Special Warfare) and served for 20 years active-duty Navy previously. Have worked with members of Congress regarding particular issues (military and veteran hunger, etc.) and have been a veteran's advocate for many years as well as supporting Chula Vista efforts across the tenure of several mayors and city councils. I sit on the board of the Chula Vista Veterans Home Support Foundation (Vice Pres, 12 yrs) and have engaged with CalVet as well. I wish to re-engage and help support again through this commission in efforts as desired by the mayor and city council. My resume is attached.

25. What would you hope to accomplish in the role of a Veterans Advisory Commissioner? (250 words or less) I've been part of the recent developing Military Re-integration pilot program specifically supporting the city and helping become a welcoming city for our transitioning military under this project that the mayor has expressed interest in supporting. Regarding the commission, the overall goal is to help others achieve and support a team that can help our community. Formerly, I helped create the content of the Veterans portion of the City's website and various connective processes that stem from it which appear to still be in place. The Veteran of the Year application I created, and selection infrastructure and other elements still appear to be part of the mix, but I would really like to engage with a team to help advance this tradition to bring it to a modest but proud event that promotes service and helps uplift our community. I am a member of most of the veteran service organizations in the city and have served at leadership positions. When I served on teh commission previously, I bridged the gap among the organizations and helped assemble frequent opportunities for each org leader to engage and support community endeavors. These are but a few of the initiatives that I wish to help by working with a team to support our city's rich veteran heritage and current home of many active-duty service members and their families. I am happy for the opportunity to serve.

26. You may upload a resume in addition to your application (optional).
