In our city government, I take special interest in public transportation and access to sustainable transportation and other no- emission modes of transport like biking or walking. I am also passionate about the rollout of green bins and management of as well as education about organic waste to citizens. I can bring my special experience of educating students and communities on waste separation, interacting with various communities across Chula Vista, coordinating with youth and providing a youth perspective myself.
26. What would you hope to accomplish in the role of a Sustainability Commissioner? (250 words or less) In the role of Sustainability Commissioner, I would like to provide insight as to how the commission can work with the city and other local organizations to make our city sustainable while being ethical. It would be vital to keep in mind our most at- risk communities such as elderly, young, and BIPOC communities which I would intend to enforce in this position, especially considering that I am a first-generation Mexican youth I have a great understanding for our communities' needs. For myself, I would also like to gain experience in a more official position such as this before I enter the workplace in a sustainability field after college. Furthermore, I would provide a youth perspective. As someone who will have to deal with the worst effects of climate change and therefore knows how urgent it is, I would call for immediate and significant action towards our city's sustainability efforts.
