Is this a gift a public funds for not receiving compensation for the land? Nancy Miles
Main Street is a very busy East-West thoroughfare for cars and trucks. The intersection of Maple Dr and Main St is unimproved and dangerous. People living North of Main St. between Melrose and Sycamore Dr use Maple to access their homes.

There is no curb or right turning lane from west bound Main St onto Maple Dr. Drivers making a right turn onto Maple Dr from West bound Main St must make a very sharp acute angle turn. This requires cars to slow down hard on busy Main St at Maple Dr to make the turn. Accidents happen often when west bound Main St drivers do not slow down and rear-end drivers making the right turn onto Maple from Main.

Primary concerns

1. Adding a new entrance onto Maple Drive from the proposed development will add even more traffic bunching up very near the intersection with West bound Main Street.

2. The improvements to Maple proposed by the developer do not address the condition of East side Maple Drive between Main Street and Spruce Road. It is unimproved and narrow. There is no curb.

Proposed Solution

1. A right turning lane needs to be added to West bound Main Street at Maple Drive to give drivers a safe way to exit from Main Street. This may have originally been planned as part of the Walnut St right-of-way shown on the proposal.

2. Maple Drive must be improved on both the West and East sides to accommodate increased traffic between Main Street and Spruce Road. A curb should be added to Maple Drive East side between Main and Spruce, Notice of the hearing was given in accordance with legal requirements, and the hearing was held on the date and no earlier than the time specified in the notice.

I have two concerns about this presentation: 1) There is no statement regarding what problem the proposals are trying to solve; and 2) These proposals were not brought to the Library Board of Trustees for discussion and input. This appears to show a lack of interest in the Board's recommendations. I wonder if other boards and commissions have had opportunities to provide input and recommendations as these proposals impact them directly.
