I, again, am stating my opposition to the proposed changes for appointment to the Board of Library Trustees. First, the notification, to board and committee members, referenced in the staff report was provided on Friday, April 10, 2026 which is insufficient notice for boards/commissions to respond to the city council. Second, these proposed changes do not appear to increase councilmember involvement in appointments; rather, they place limitations on potential board/commission members. I am disappointed that the city council members have chosen to continue down this path of disrespect for voluntary board/commission members.

Harborside Elementary wholeheartedly supports this item and is grateful for the City of Chula Vista's consideration of $15,000 for the Food4Kids Backpack Program. Hunger doesn't take weekends off, and neither does its impact on our students. The San Diego Food Bank's program helps ensure children have access to nutritious food throughout the week, not just when school is in session. For many Harborside families, this backpack would be a critical lifeline. Well-nourished students come to school more focused, engaged, and ready to learn. We respectfully urge the Council's support for this item.
Mauricio Medina
The San Diego Food Bank proudly supports this item and is grateful for the City of Chula Vista's consideration of $15,000 for our Food4Kids Backpack Program. This funding would provide 75 students at Lauderbach, Harborside, and Montgomery Elementary Schools with nutritious weekend meals throughout the school year. Food insecurity directly affects a child's ability to learn and thrive, and the Food4Kids program helps ensure children have nourishment throughout the week, not just during school hours. We respectfully urge the Council's support for this item.
Laura Franco
J. Calvin Lauderbach Elementary fully supports this item and is grateful for the City of Chula Vista's consideration of $15,000 for the San Diego Food Bank's Food4Kids Backpack Program. For many of our students, the weekend creates a real gap in food access that can be hard to see but impossible to ignore in the classroom. The backpack a child carries home on Friday could make a meaningful difference by Monday morning — in their energy, their focus, and their ability to engage. We respectfully urge the Council's support for this item.
