Hello, my name is Andres Zapata. My wife and I have been architects for over 40 years. We are small business owners living at 649 E. Naples St., near the planned Park Hill UMC project. We are here to ask that you vote NO on funding this project.
I would like to THANK Wakeland and Park Hill UMC for the chance to meet such wonderful neighbors! • Wakeland has a mission and SB4 provided the opportunity • City staff has a difficult job of selecting proposals. • The CEO of Wakeland said change is inevitable. I agree, Changes do come. But change should not at the cost of citizens losing the ability to speak. If we lose the ability to speak, we lose the community. • This project not only affects immediate neighbors but the community at large. The hospital, emergency services, the school, special education students.
• We were told by Wakeland that they have not conducted (environmental, traffic) studies on neighborhood impact but continue to say that this is the best site. City staff's presentation did not address these issues in their recommendation. • Crime, safety, property values are hard to quantify and controversial but here are some hard facts:
1. Approximately 450 to 480 daily vehicle trips would be generated by this project
2. A similar project would require 127 parking spaces. With the estimated 73 spots, this would create a deficit of 54 spaces.
Competing for street parking with parents of Greg Rogers Elementary
3. Only 34 street parking spaces are available on the immediate blocks.
4. Parents and neighbors will be forced to park further away onE. Naples and Foxboro Ave. • This is not a neighborhood in transition
• Currently custom homes are under construction. and many home renovations along Oleander are underway. Continuing on the Momentum of the current character of the neighborhood.
• Not a single structure in the vicinity that has the footprint size, volume and visual impact of the proposed project. • This project will be a CATALYST, and not for the better of the community We urge you to vote NO on funding this project.
