c. Utilize the Police Department's current traffic unit to create a school liaison program to provide enhanced traffic enforcement and life safety, including perimeter security, at Citrus Heights schools
d. Continue coordination with the San Juan Unified Safe Schools program Police Chief Turcotte presented the item. Option 1 would be to hire and fund two additional full-time school resource officers (SROs); one assigned at each high school which would have a fiscal impact of approximately $370,000 per year. The San Juan Unified School District currently utilized the Safe Schools Program to handle administrative investigations and threat assessments that were previously assigned to SROs. Option 1 would add school officers directly to the campus. Option 2 would utilize existing sworn positions to reassign them to the SRO program which would cause a negligible fiscal impact, but would cause an operational impact. Option 3 would utilize the Police Department's traffic unit to create a school liaison program. This option would enhance a formal relationship and make a primary liaison with the schools and continue to do the administrative duties of what used to be SROs. This option would not need to reduce any other units and there is no fiscal impact. Option 4 would be a no change option and continue to collaborate with San Juan Unified to mitigate threats and enhance safety measures as applicable. There is no fiscal impact with Option 4.
