Dear City‐Schools Subcommittee Members,
I have been the President of the Cloverdale Tennis Association for the past 15 years. In 2009, a joint project to refurbish the tennis courts at the high school was completed. The total cost was just under $250,000. It was funded by CUSD, City of Cloverdale, Cloverdale Tennis Association and a grant from the United States Tennis Association. In 2018, all five courts were resurfaced at a cost of $19,800. I don’t remember for sure but I believe the City may have contributed to that.

The courts at the high school are the only public courts in Cloverdale. Because of this and the prior investment in them, I feel the courts should be kept in good shape.

The courts will need to be resurfaced again in a year or two. I am writing to this committee to suggest that you budget for this expense. When they are resurfaced, I would hope that the courts would also be lined for pickleball, which is a much easier game to pick up than tennis. (I am also President of the Cloverdale Pickleball Club and the USA Pickleball Ambassador for Cloverdale.)
If the City, CUSD and high school want to use the courts for pickleball, it would seem to make sense to resurface the courts soon and have both tennis and pickleball lines done at that time, rather than line the courts now for pickleball and then resurface in a year or two and have to do them over again.

If you would like for me to come to a committee meeting to discuss this, please let me know. I also have some suggestions on how the courts could accommodate more than one pickleball court on each tennis court — this would especially be better for CHS PE classes to have more than five courts.

Sincerely,
Brad Horrall

March 16, 2023
To the Cloverdale Unified School District Community,
We are pleased to announce the conclusion of our search for our next superintendent. We have selected Mr. Glen Senestraro as the final candidate. Using the significant amount of input received from so many people, our Board spent many long and thoughtful hours reading applications from twenty-three candidates, matching qualifications for the position based on the input we received, developing interview questions based on the input, and finally interviewing candidates, Mr. Senestraro was chosen from a highly qualified field following this rigorous process. In order to validate our selection, twelve references were called, a criminal background investigation was conducted, and two board members travelled to Mr. Semeraro’s current district to interview people there about his perceived fit in Cloverdale.

Mr. Senestraro is currently the Superintendent in the Fortuna Union High School District in Humboldt County. Fortuna is a very successful district with one traditional high school, one continuation high school and one early college high school.

The district currently serves about 1,100 students in grades 9-12. Prior to his current assignment in Fortuna, Mr.

Senestraro served in many different administrative capacities: principal, vice-principal and athletic director. Mr.

Senestraro taught high school math courses for fifteen years. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Sacramento State University and a master’s degree from National University. Mr. Senestraro has extensive experience in many facets of education.

Mr. Senestraro is married with four children and currently lives in Fortuna. He is very active in the Fortuna Community and intends to do so in Cloverdale. Glen is beyond thrilled to be joining Cloverdale Unified School District and is honored to be selected to serve as our next leader. He is aware of our commitment to excellence in education. Knowing how important it is to our community, Glen intends to immediately move to Cloverdale.

Although the official start date for Mr. Senestraro will be July 1, he is planning some transition meetings and visits prior to the end of the school year. We look forward to a smooth transition and are excited for Mr. Senestraro to meet our outstanding students, staff, teachers, parents and Cloverdale community.

We offer profound thank you to everyone who contributed input which led to creating the profile for a superintendent who will best “fit” into our District and community. We would also like to thank Steve Jorgensen for his dedication and service to our district during this interim period. We wish Steve a long, happy and healthy return to retirement and is grateful for his years spent striving to make a difference for children and adults here in Cloverdale.
