Comment: I totally agree with councilwoman Diane's suggestion to only fly the American flag, the California state flag and the Clovis city flag. We need to start focusing on what we have in common rather than creating more silos that create division.

Thank you!

Comment: Honorable City of Clovis Council Members,
I have been made aware of a recent vote of denial made by your body concerning the proposal to fly only three flags from Clovis city government buildings; i.e., the United States flag, State of California flag and the City of Clovis flag. This proposal was intended to negate potential division within our community concerning the displaying of flags. It apparently had wide support of the community at large.

As a retired Marine officer, I was flabbergasted, to say the least, that a generally conservative community such as ours must even argue the point of what flags we should fly over our city government buildings. I have watched our military become an increasingly social experiment for the past 50 years. This is inherently wrong! Our military's sole purpose is to protect and defend our Nation. There is only one flag to be considered here - our national colors. Social experiments, if they must be done at all, should not be connected to our military. The same sentiment should go for state and local government buildings. State and local flags represent those entities which include all its' citizens regardless of race, creed, color, gender or beliefs, religious or otherwise. Any other flags should be welcome to be flown from citizen's yards and businesses, but have no place with respect to our government buildings.

I sense that the majority of the council was afraid of offending someone or some organization within the community.

You cannot make all the people happy all the time. We have allowed ourselves to be increasingly ruled by the minority of any given issue. Where did the term "the majority rules" go? I am greatly disappointed by the failure of this council to stand up for what you know is right. I voted for you, but I will remember this on the next election day. Please reconsider your stance and stand up for what you know to be right. This country, state and community do not deserve less.

Respectfully submitted,
Brooks Wilson

Comment: I wholeheartedly support Councilwoman Diane Pierce and her flag policy.

You represent all citizens of the city and the flags flown should represent ALL citizens.

ONLY city, state, and national flags represent EVERYONE Anything else would represent one group or another and NOT everyone.

Please support EVERYONE instead of individual groups

Comment: I believe it is necessary to let the public know if there is a proposal to change the flag display ordinance in the ciy of Clovis and it should only be amened or repealed by a vote of the entire majority of the Clovis city counsel.

Comment: Regarding the city's flag code.

I support the flag ordinance that only allows the US, CA, and Clovis flags to be flown by the City and that only a majority of the council can change the policy.

Comment: It is my understanding, that there is no council approved flag policy in Clovis. Ms. Pierce asked to put the item up on the agenda, about what flags should fly in Clovis, and the other council members voted against putting this on the agenda. First off, the American flag, the State flag and the Clovis flag should be flown only, but the exception to these is the POW/MIA flag and any military flag. No other flags. This should be put on the agenda and voted on by the council. I will say that I do not know anything about the City manager, but that this is not an elected position. If this position is allowed to decide this issue, the people have to course to remove this individual, as they have not voted for them. In summary, the above named flags and voted on by the city council.

Thank you.

Comment: I sent a comment through earlier about the flag issue what was not put on the agenda, but put the wrong email address down (it's a new one). The above is correct.

To make sure your received my comment, it was that I agree with Ms. Pierce, that the city council should vote on which flags should be flown, not an unelected city manager. The flags that should be flown are the American flag, the State flag, and the Clovis flag, with exceptions for POW/MIA flags and military flags, such as the flag of the Marines.

Thank you,
