SUBJECT: A Proclamation to Proclaim April 2022 as “Sexual Assault Awareness Month” and April 27, 2022 as “Denim Day”

RECOMMENDATION:
City staff recommends that the City Council approve a proclamation declaring April 2022 as “Sexual Assault Awareness Month” and April 27, 2022 as “Denim Day.” ANALYSIS:
Peace Over Violence is asking government agencies to join them in supporting Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April 2022 and Denim Day on April 27, 2022. This campaign protests an Italian Supreme Court Decision to overturn a rape conviction because the victim wore jeans. It draws attention to the fact that rape and sexual assault remain a serious issue in society. The City Council strongly supports efforts to educate the community about the true impact of rape and sexual violence. Employees and public officials are encouraged to wear denim on April 27, 2022.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This activity may be carried out without additional impact on the current operating budget.

This matter is applicable to the following Strategic Focus Area and Guiding Principle: Community Quality of Life – Guiding Principle 4: Support and evaluate community services, programs and events that promote healthy and quality lifestyles for our residents.
