Item No.

TO: Honorable City Council
FROM: City Manager
SUBJECT: A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Commerce, California Approving an Agreement between the City and Pyro Spectaculars, Inc. for the Independence Day Celebration at Rosewood Park Meeting Date: May 10, 2022
RECOMMENDATION:

Approve an agreement between the City of Commerce and Pyro Spectaculars Inc. for the Independence Day Celebration Pyrotechnic Display at Rosewood Park; assign the number next in order.

ANALYSIS/BACKGROUND:

As part of the Independence Day Celebration, the City has traditionally provided a pyrotechnic display. This year’s pyrotechnic display will take place on Saturday, July 2, 2022, in conjunction with the Independence Day Celebration at Rosewood Park. This event is a community favorite. In 2019, an estimated 10,000 people were in attendance to enjoy the display and other features.

On March 2, 2010, the City Council authorized Parks and Recreation Department to solicit donations for the 4th of July festivities from local businesses, civic/service organizations, and the general public. Accordingly, the Department is soliciting donations to help offset the cost of the festivities.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Expenditure for the proposed activity will amount to $22,500.00 for the 22/23 Fiscal Year, which will be paid through donations received. The Commerce Hoteal and Casino has already graciously donated $15,000 for this event. Staff will circle back with City Council if the donations obtained are insufficient to cover the cost of the pyrotechnic display.

RELATIONSHIP TO STRATEGIC GOALS:

This agenda item relates to Strategic Goal #1: Develop Citywide Plan to enhance and maintain the City of Commerce environment and infrastructure to create liveability and quality of life for those who life, work and play in the community.

Respectfully submitted: Edgar P. Cisneros, City Manager Recommended by: Greg Alaniz, Parks and Recreation Director Fiscal Impact reviewed by: Vilko Domic, Assistant City Manager Approved as to form by: Noel Tapia, City Attorney
