Hello,
I spoke to Mr. Jacobs regarding his objection to the removal of the south leg crosswalk at the Slauson and Gage intersection (see email below). During our conversation, I explained to Mr. Jacobs that the City will be repaving Slauson Ave in the coming weeks and if the crosswalk was to remain all curb ramps that lead to the crosswalk will need to become ADA compliant and since this crosswalk does not provide a safe walkable path for pedestrians it was recommended to be removed. He informed me that he understood the City's decision and was happy that the pavement on Slauson was being repaved and that it will provide a safer path for both pedestrians and vehicles as it was a tripping hazard. He also mentioned that he will NOT be going to any of the Council meetings to object to the removal.
Regards,
Karen Vigil

We are three Commerce residents who strongly object to you removing the crosswalk at the corner of Slauson and Gage. We use this crosswalk weekly to go from our houses to get to Denny’s restaurant, Ozzies restaurant and into Downey and pico Rivera. We both walk and jog in this area Sometimes five times a week. There is no safe alternative route because the passage under the freeway going east on Slauson is very narrow and congested and much more dangerous than crossing on the south side of the street. Please reconsider removing this crosswalk. Sincerely Eugene Jacobs, Mariana Ramirez, and Joanna Nila
