TO: Honorable City Council
FROM: City Manager
SUBJECT: Driveway Street Permit Parking
Meeting Date: October 25, 2022
RECOMMENDATION:
The City Council will receive and file a report on a Driveway Permit Street Parking Program and/or provide staff with further direction.
BACKGROUND:
On July 26, 2022, the City Council discussed the ongoing issue of limited street parking and the possibility of considering allowing for parking in the street at the end of one’s own driveway parallel to the apron. Council also discussed that an informational report had been presented to them previously and requested an update on the subject matter.
On May 5, 2020, staff presented a report to Council and a draft Policy and Procedures for a Driveway Parking Permit Program (attached). Council discussed parking issues and the draft policy and procedures and at the time, did not make a final determination to implement the policy.
As requested, staff is returning to Council with information and a presentation for discussion purposes and suggests providing direction to staff on the following options:
Option 1
Uphold prior Council decision to not institute new end of driveway street parking.
Option 2
If considering implementing the permitted parking program, request staff to return with additional information on implementation procedures, department resources, and additional ongoing funding needed to support the program.
Option 3
Provide alternative direction to staff.
ALTERNATIVES:
Approve staff recommendation and receive and file this report.
